The Second Swachh Survekshan Survey was conducted
in 434 cities in 2016-17 and the results were announced in May 2017. The Survey
was based on urban sanitation and the ranking was based on a combination of:

Data provided by the municipal body
·
Data collected through direct observation and independent assessment
·
Collection of direct citizen feedback
The Survey was carried out by Quality Council of
India.
The objective of the survey was to measure the
scenario regarding sanitation in selected cities, efforts made by these cities
to improve sanitation through necessary strategies, to assess the impact of
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and to promote a spirit of healthy competition among
cities.
Tables 1 and 2 give the top 10 and the bottom 10
cities in terms of cleanliness.
